Riding Through History: Neil Hultman and the Jackpine Gypsies

A Legendary Journey Begins

Neil Hultman’s love for motorcycling ignited in 1947, at the age of 19, when he became a member of the iconic Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club. It was a pivotal moment that would shape his life for decades to come. His journey began with the purchase of an Indian Chief from none other than J.C. “Pappy” Hoel, the Indian dealer in Sturgis and founder of the legendary Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Back in those days, Neil’s Indian Chief was more than just a bike; it was his sole means of transportation. He rode it relentlessly, through summer’s heat and winter’s chill, never missing a Sturgis Rally. The only exception came when Uncle Sam summoned him for a military stint in Korea, but even that couldn’t dampen his passion for riding.

A Lifelong Commitment

For an impressive 54 years, Neil remained an active member of the Jackpine Gypsies and the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA). His unwavering dedication to the sport and community made him a beloved figure among fellow riders. Bob Moore, a friend and fellow Gypsie member, aptly stated, “Neil was the cement that kept everything together through the good times and the bad.” His presence was not just felt; it was integral to the fabric of the club.

Neil didn’t just ride; he actively participated in all aspects of the Sturgis Rally, contributing to its growth and legacy over the years. His passion for motorcycling remained undiminished, and he continued to inspire younger generations of riders with his stories and experiences.

A Passion for Antique Motorcycles

Beyond the thrill of riding, Neil is also an avid collector of antique motorcycles. Several of his prized possessions are currently on display at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame, where they serve as a testament to the rich history of motorcycling and Neil's dedication to preserving it.

Neil’s collection not only showcases his love for vintage bikes but also embodies the spirit of adventure and nostalgia that defines the motorcycling community. Each motorcycle tells a story, just like Neil himself—one of passion, camaraderie, and a lifelong commitment to the open road.

An Inspiration for All

Neil Hultman’s journey in the world of motorcycling is a remarkable testament to his love for the sport and the community. His legacy is woven into the very fabric of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club.
