Motor Maids: Pioneering Women on Two Wheels

Founded in 1940 and chartered by the AMA in 1941, the Motor Maids have earned their place in history as the first women’s motorcycle organization in the United States—and possibly the world. With a mission to unite women motorcyclists and promote motorcycle interest, the Motor Maids have remained true to their founding principles for over eight decades.

A Historic Beginning

The inaugural Motor Maids event took place in 1941 in Plainfield, New Jersey. However, the onset of World War II put a temporary halt to their gatherings. It wasn't until 1944 that the organization held its first formal convention in Columbus, Ohio. This National Convention has since become a cherished tradition, drawing Motor Maids together each July in various states and provinces, with the only stipulation being that they ride there.

A Legacy of Service and Brotherhood

The Motor Maids quickly made a name for themselves in the motorcycling community, starting with their involvement in parades. Their first appearance was in 1941, when Howard Foley invited them to open the Charity Newsies Race in Columbus. Since then, they have been featured in parades at numerous races and events across the United States and Canada, including the iconic Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Dressed impeccably in their traditional royal blue and grey uniforms, the Motor Maids exude professionalism and pride. Their presence at events is a testament to their commitment to the values they hold dear. Members range from well-known figures in the motorcycle world to those who may not be as recognizable, yet all share a mutual respect that has fostered a strong sisterhood lasting over six decades.

Breaking Barriers

The spirit of adventure that the Motor Maids embody has paved the way for countless women in the world of motorcycling. Each mile they rode made it easier for another woman to mount a motorcycle; each turn they took broke down barriers; and every journey they embarked on opened doors for future riders. Their passion and determination have had a profound impact on the perception of women in motorcycling.

A Visionary Legacy

The Motor Maids were formed by visionaries who believed in the power of camaraderie, friendship, and a love for two wheels. Guided by strength and compassion, this group of pioneers has built a legacy that resonates throughout the motorcycling community. Their journey is not only a celebration of their achievements but also an inspiration for riders of all backgrounds.

The Road Ahead

As they continue to ride into the future, the Motor Maids remain dedicated to their mission of promoting motorcycle interest and supporting one another. Their ongoing efforts to unite women motorcyclists serve as a powerful reminder of the impact that a group of determined individuals can have on a community.

In the words of the Motor Maids, "Each ride we take is a testament to the strength of our sisterhood and our unwavering love for motorcycling." Through their dedication, they have not only forged a path for themselves but have also created a space for women riders to thrive.

With a legacy rooted in adventure, resilience, and friendship, the Motor Maids inspire future generations to embrace the open road and continue the ride.
