Oliver Shokouh: A Legacy of Passion and Philanthropy in Motorcycling

From the bustling streets of Detroit to the open roads of America, Oliver Shokouh has dedicated his life to the motorcycle community. An avid rider since the age of 12, Oliver's journey is one of passion, innovation, and a commitment to giving back.

A Foundation in Engineering

After graduating with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University, Oliver began his professional career as a Project Engineer in auto emissions research. However, his love for motorcycles would soon steer him toward a different path. In 1976, he became a Harley-Davidson dealer in Glendale, California, embarking on a journey that would solidify his status in the motorcycle industry.

Leadership and Recognition

Oliver quickly rose through the ranks, serving on the board of directors for both the Southern California Harley-Davidson Dealers Association and the California Motorcycle Dealers Association, holding key positions such as president and secretary/treasurer. His dedication to excellence earned him recognition as the first runner-up in the 1999 Dealer News Top 100 Dealerships in the Country, showcasing his commitment to quality service and community engagement.

Founding the Love Ride

In 1984, Oliver founded the Love Ride, which has become one of the largest one-day motorcycle events in the nation. Over its 23-year history, the event has raised nearly $19 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), highlighting Oliver's unwavering commitment to philanthropy. His humanitarian efforts have not gone unnoticed; he received the MDA’s Humanitarian of the Year Award in 1994 and the Southern California MDA’s Man of the Year Award in 2006.

A Life of Advocacy and Service

Oliver’s influence extends beyond fundraising; he is a Life Member of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), the Wind & Fire Motorcycle Club, and the Harley Owners Group (HOG). He is also a Charter Member of The Ugly Motorcycle Club. His advocacy for motorcyclist rights and safety has earned him the Silver Spoke Award from the National Coalition of Motorcyclists and the Confederation of Clubs in 1999, as well as the MIC (Motorcycle Industry Council) Key Award in 1994.

Additionally, he has been recognized with multiple Bar & Shield Circle of Excellence Awards by Harley-Davidson, Inc. and has twice been named Harley-Davidson Promoter of the Year. His contributions to motorcycling culture include producing the Harley-Davidson Official and Authorized History Video, a documentary exploring the socio-cultural history of motorcycling in America.

A Journey Across America

Oliver's love for riding is not just professional; it’s personal. He has ridden in every state in the United States, creating memories and connections along the way. A memorable highlight was a summer trip to Alaska in 1994 with his 18-year-old son, Richard, marking Richard’s first long-distance ride. This journey not only strengthened their bond but also illustrated the freedom and joy that motorcycling brings to families.

Continuing the Legacy

Today, Oliver Shokouh remains a prominent figure in the motorcycling community, inspiring new generations of riders to embrace the open road while giving back to those in need. His legacy is one of passion, philanthropy, and a steadfast commitment to enhancing the motorcycle experience for all. As a rider, dealer, and humanitarian, Oliver embodies the spirit of motorcycling, proving that the journey is just as important as the destination.
