Mondo Porras: The Godfather of Choppers

For over 50 years, Mondo Porras has shaped the world of custom motorcycles, creating the signature "chopper" look that has become iconic in bike culture. Since 1967, when he first teamed up with legendary custom builder Denver Mullins, Mondo has been a pioneering force in the industry. Together, they founded Denver's Choppers, a globally influential company responsible for some of the first aftermarket parts designed specifically for the emerging chopper scene.

Denver’s Choppers became known for their extended springer front ends and custom frames, which helped define the “long-bike” aesthetic synonymous with the chopper world. This distinctive look, characterized by sleek, extended front forks and elongated frames, has become a timeless element of motorcycle design. Mondo’s work has earned him numerous accolades and awards, solidifying his place as one of the most influential custom bike builders in history.

For Mondo, building custom motorcycles has always been more than just a craft—it’s been a way to promote the culture of motorcycling around the globe. His influence extends far beyond his shop in Reno, Nevada, through television appearances, books, magazines, and the vintage chopper shows he produces. He is often referred to as the “Godfather of Choppers,” a title that speaks to his monumental impact on the custom bike world.

Mondo has served as a positive role model for Mexican American bike builders, while his unique designs have garnered a strong following not only in the U.S. but also in places as far-flung as the Middle East, Asia, and Sweden. His influence is truly global, with his work respected and admired by bike enthusiasts and builders worldwide.

Mondo’s achievements have been highlighted in mainstream media, including the Discovery Channel’s Biker Build Off, Motorcycle Mania, and in books like The Art of the Chopper 2. He has also graced the cover of Easyriders Magazine four times—a testament to his ongoing relevance and mastery in the custom motorcycle world.

In addition to his influence in design and building, Mondo has a strong philanthropic streak. He was a key player in the "Blood Sweat and Gears Tour" alongside fellow custom builder Billy Lane, where they traveled across the country building bikes on stage and gifting them to deserving military veterans. This charitable effort not only highlighted his talents but also underscored his commitment to giving back to the community.

As a member of the International Master Bike Builders Association and a Hall of Fame inductee, Mondo continues to travel the world promoting the art of custom motorcycles. Whether he's working on a new build or speaking at an international event, Mondo Porras remains a towering figure in the world of custom motorcycles, a true trailblazer whose influence will continue to inspire future generations of bike builders.
