Jared Mees: A Flat Track Legend’s Record-Breaking Career and Final Victory Lap

With every race, Jared Mees cements his legacy as one of the most dominant forces in the history of Progressive American Flat Track racing. Already a six-time Grand National Champion by the start of the 2017 season, Mees has since taken his career to unprecedented heights, rewriting the sport’s record books and redefining what it means to be a champion.

Starting in 2017, Mees embarked on a jaw-dropping run with Indian Motorcycle, one that solidified his place among flat track racing’s all-time greats. Between 2017 and 2020, the Pennsylvania native captured an astonishing 33 Main Event victories and added two more Grand National Championships to his growing collection. His consistent dominance made him nearly unbeatable, leaving competitors in awe and often in his dust.

Initially known for his expertise on Half-Mile tracks, Mees transformed into a versatile racer, proving he could win on any surface. He twice completed the elusive Grand Slam—winning on a Mile, Half-Mile, Short Track, and TT circuit—within a single season, first in 2017 and again in 2018. This rare feat showcased his adaptability and skill across the full spectrum of flat track racing.

Perhaps Mees' most impressive accomplishment came in 2019, when he swept all six Mile events on the calendar, showcasing his unmatched ability to dominate at the sport’s most iconic venues. His tenacity, physical fitness, and relentless determination have made him both admired and feared in the paddock. Opponents know that when Mees is on the track, there’s no room for error—he’s the complete package, with no weaknesses to exploit.

Despite taking a step back in recent years, Mees’ hunger for victory has never waned. Even after two seasons without a Grand National Championship, he remained fiercely determined to reclaim his place at the top of the sport.

Off the track, Mees is equally committed to his family and future. He and his wife, Nichole, have become integral figures in the racing community, serving as promoters of the Lima Half-Mile, one of flat track’s most storied events. As a businessman and promoter, Mees is already laying the groundwork for his post-racing career, ensuring his influence on the sport will continue for years to come.

In 2024, Jared Mees achieved yet another milestone by capturing his 10th Grand National Championship—a fitting end to a legendary career. Shortly after, he announced his retirement from flat track racing, leaving behind a legacy that will be difficult to match. From his early days as a Half-Mile specialist to his transformation into one of the sport’s most complete and accomplished riders, Mees’ career has been nothing short of extraordinary.

As he steps away from the sport, Mees leaves behind not just a trophy case full of accolades, but a blueprint for future champions. His tenacity, skill, and dedication have set a new standard in flat track racing, one that riders will chase for years to come.

Jared Mees may be hanging up his helmet, but his legacy as one of the greatest flat track racers of all time is firmly secure.
